Events Testimonials - UK Egghead flies to Georgia for Eggtoberfest

George bought his Big Green Egg in June and has since become what is known in the trade as an “EGGhead” whose enthusiasm knows no bounds! Determined to see how the American’s do it,  he flew over 4000 miles to the BGE headquarters in Atlanta GA for this years Eggtoberfest. He sent us this report….
Well as the photos show we made it to the Atlanta Speedway Georgia Eggtoberfest 2012.
Was it worth it?
Silly question it was beyond our dreams.

Having communicated on Egg forums we arranged to meet up and eyeball a few members the night before.  Most had brought one if not two eggs to the site and an evening of eating and drinking commenced outside their motorhome / trailer / RV’s just like a UK caravan club rally with cooking as the theme. Tremendous bunch of people and the knowledge base overwhelmed me.

The people at the Eggtoberfest could not have been more friendly they welcomed us as though we were long time best friends. As the furthest travelled just for the event then the company , dealers and reps took care of us.  Spent time with plenty of the celeb cooks and guests, The founder Ed Fisher and the company who make the the eggs in Mexico were extremely interesting as well.

On the main cook day there were 3200 viewers and 310 cooks There is not a hope in hell of seriously competing with this lot. The food was out of this world. Some of it I had never tasted or seen before.  Back home in UK we automatically think of Brisket, Pork, Chicken Smoked, Grilled, Broiled etc  but throw the rule book away in their cooking.

Visited the Factory ( mothership ) last day before leaving , never seen so many Eggs in one place and ready to ship worldwide. Another fantastic day with Fantastic people.

Will we go again.
What do you think???

Quite fancy the Florida one and the Turkeyfest and the ……   oops calm down…

Testimonials - Buy cheap, buy twice with most other barbecues, but not the Big Green Egg says George!

“I have known about the Big Green Egg for a few years now –  but just needing to justify the expense of purchasing a LARGE Egg I started to add the costs of all the metal units I had gone through over the years and even with 5 or 10 year warranties they still start to look shabby and needed replacing.

Having spent most of my leisure time in a motor home touring UK and Europe BBQ cooking is not new to me so seeing a unit setup to cook burgers does not inspire  me enough to part with my hard earned cash.  However at a recent demonstration on the Big Green Bus, the chef showed versatility cooking fruit and vegetables at the same time as a whole joint of meat/poultry and opened my eyes to the possibilities of it being a full oven and hobb replacement.

Time to bite the bullet, took delivery of a Large Green Egg.  I don’t think it has cooled down since then.  All red blooded males know how to cook or burn on a BBQ.  But this unit is way beyond that.  I have used as a clay oven for pizza and baked bread. Turned real low to 200f I have smoked whole legs of lamb, large cheap joints of beef brisket, and gammon joints.  Used at a higher temperature for pork joints with crackling you could die for and a full roast dinner whole roast chicken, potatoes, parsnip etc.

It has turned my patio into my outdoor kitchen (no splattered messy oven to clean)

Wish I had taken the plunge and bought it sooner. Old saying of buy cheap buy twice has never been more true than with most other BBQ’s - Now when we go away in our motor home we can’t wait to get home and cook on the Big Green Egg. Time to start saving for the mini one…”

Testimonials - The Big Green Egg - as a cake!

How about this as the ultimate declaration of love – and a great homage to the Big Green Egg!  This Groom’s cake looks as good as the real thing….

In the United States (home of the Big Green Egg) a groom’s cake is a wedding tradition – whereas a wedding cake is usually white, the groom’s cake can take a variety of designs and colours and is often served at a separate table from the wedding cake a the wedding reception – or the stag night.

The question is…. was it baked on a Big Green Egg?!
